Day
1 : 16th May 2016
Today
is the first day of our 7th rotation of Clinical
Placement. So this rotation, I was assigned in the Intensive Care
Unit (ICU) in Suri Seri Begawan Hospital (SSBH) in Belait District.
There are four of us assigned in this unit.
I
was a bit nervous because this is the first time we were located in
different hospitals among our colleagues. Some at Tutong Hospital,
Renal Centre in Kiaraong and Rimba, and others are at RIPAS Hospital.
The
staffs are very welcoming us in the unit and do a short
briefing/orientation around the unit itself. Then we were called by
the Matron and Sisters to meet them for the first time. They gave us
briefing and a short welcoming speech. Then we had a 'hospital-round'
to familiarize with the hospital setting or layout. We even went to
the Medical and Surgical wards as well as the Obstretic and
Gynaecology ward.
Briefing
from the Sister regarding the ICU settings. The roles of the staffs
in the ICU
- To provide a quality nursing care for the patients.
- To ensure safety precautions when handling patients with care.
So
basically there are 18 nurses altogether in the ICU. 6 beds ; 2 out
of 6 beds are for the Isolation rooms. Strict entry; monitored by
the CCTV. Limited visitors to 2 only per patient to ensure the
patient are having an enough rest.
The
Sister also shared with us about 4 important values in
nursing/medical field: customer's prioritize, teamwork, excellent
work and dynamic. He also shared with us about Ministry of Health's
aims: Health is everyone need, High quality services, and
Limit/Prevent the infectious diseases.
Then
we asked for permission to take pictures regarding our
presentation/task given by the lecturer. We are allowed to take
pictures for educational purposes but strict only the equipment not
the patients as this to maintain patients' dignity and rights.
There
are few differences that spotted: (1) Glucose Monitoring Test (GMT)
Chart– This is similar with the Dextrose Stix. As we are familiar
with 'Dstix'. (2) Vital Signs chart are different as
well.
Love,
D.
